Description
Here it is - an original NM/VG+ edition of that unknown sixties folk-rock garage band from Notre Dame - the Shaggs, with its cryptic cover of a close-up of one of the band member's faces. It is on the original MMC label (and is NOT a reprint). Cover is NM with no seam splits, very nice and fresh with no problems. Vinyl is VG+ with minor scuffs, but no scratches - the last two pictures above were taken in direct sunlight to give you the worst case scenario, and the vinyl retains its full rainbow sheen. I played it and it plays with no skips nor distortion, just some mild background noise in places, the music is solid and comes through fine. This is the second copy I've found of this record, my other copy is in a similar condition, and I also have the re-issue of this record (which also plays with some surface noise, perhaps it is a noisy recording, and apparently the master tapes are long gone).
I guarantee you will be happy with this record, or you may return it within ten (10) days for a full refund (buyer pays all shipping costs).
As has been written about them: "Although recorded in 1967 at the International Recording Studio in Chicago, this one and only offering by the five-piece preppy outfit from Notre Dame University in Indiana, with its multi-part vocal harmonies and jangly guitar, could easily have appeared in 1965 or '66. However, there is no doubting the band's musical proficiency as they canter through a selection of songs by such luminaries as the Stones, Who, Beau Brummels, Byrds and Them, with the high point being an inspired version of 'If I Were A Carpenter'. As was so often the case, the band members, after producing what was to become a massively-collectable rarity, went their separate ways, probably to pursue fascinating careers in the world of orthodontistry or accounting."
In addition to their excellent cover song choices, which are competently done, this album contains two originals written by the band: "Impossibility" is a nice up tempo pop rock song and "Little Girl" is a nice soft and wistful pop song. It is a very rare local garage band album, few copies exist, and it lists in my 2000 Osborne Catalog at $1,000 to $2,000.
I do not use paypal, please send a check made out to Dennis Higdon (personal checks must clear first). I only ship to the United States. There is a reasonable reserve of 4% of the full catalog price. Insurance is required, and I only charge exact shipping costs of USPS Priority Mail, properly wrapped in LP box (shipping costs with $500 insurance is $11.00). Good luck!
