Description

It's hard to imagine how times have changed since 1980. There was still an active music scene in the east village mainly consisting of clubs mostly on Bleeker St. They're all gone except for The Bitter End which is hanging on by a thread. Kenny's Kastaways was certainly one of the best places to be. I don't know how he did it but Pat Kenny was able to attract well known folk and rock bands while presenting the best of local bands from New York and New Jersey area, and there was never a cover. One of them was the Smithereens. They went from playing occasion gigs to becoming the house band on weekends. It was obvious why. They were great. After seeing them once, their music kind of crept up on you and would easily become infectious. Not only was it their sound, but the songs were amazing. After a while, I got to know Pat Dinezio and realized he was the one behind most of the songwriting. I became an instant fan. One day, he brought in a small box of records with these EPs and gave out a few of them to fans and any record people who might be in the audience. I will always be grateful to the Smithereens and especially to Pat for the great times way back then, and for this record he layed on me that night. I knew they were going to make it.
