Description
The experience of buying records on Ebay is ruined if, when they arrive, you discover that they are either not in the condition stated or have been damaged in the post! For this reason I describe all my items in detail, and only post using strong sturdy packaging in a 'box' mailer with the record outside the sleeve to avoid seam-splitting. They are also from a non-smoking and pet-free home.
I accept returns and offer a full refund if you are not happy with your purchase.
The Smiths - 6 Solid-Centre Pressing UK 7'' Singles - 1983-1985
Catalogue nos. RT 136 - RT 186 - Rough Trade Records
As the demand for original Smiths and Morrissey records continues to grow, collectors are increasingly documenting subtle and more obscure differences between pressing versions. It is well established that Morrissey favoured the use of the four-pronged 'push-out' centre in the manufacture of the 7" singles which The Smiths released, and that there may well have been a contractual obligation for the pressing plants to use this 'push-out' format. Nonetheless, it seems that a number of solid-centre pressings of many, and possibly all, of the Smiths Rough Trade 7" singles have made their way out into the market at some point. This auction is for six examples of such 'solid-centre' Rough Trade pressings of Smiths singles from the 1980s. While it is apparent that some of these records are rarer than others, it is clear that these pressings are less common that their 'pronged centre' equivalents and are appearing less and less often for sale at reasonable prices; several of these records are already being offered for very high prices by vendors, and it seems certain that their value will continue to grow as they become more widely known about and thereby sought by collectors. This auction includes 'This Charming Man', 'What Difference Does It Make?' (with the Morrissey version of the sleeve artwork), 'Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now', 'How Soon Is Now?', 'Shakespeare's Sister' (this is the version with the true solid-centre rather than the overlayed sticker version) and 'That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore'. This presents a terrific opportunity to obtain these six rarer pressings in highly collectable condition (see below) in one auction, before they become impossibly rare and difficult to find; the postage costs will also, of course, be considerably cheaper than buying them individually and having them sent separately. The vinyl and labels for 'This Charming Man' are in strong excellent condition, with only extremely light superficial surface marks on the glossy vinyl in a few places; the record has clearly been played only once or twice and has been well looked-after. The sleeve is similarly in strong excellent condition, with light creasing in a couple of places only but no seam-splitting or major signs of wear. If held to the light, there are just some minor 'score lines' in the surface of the sleeve in one or two places. In the case of 'What Difference Does It Make?', the vinyl and labels are in near mint condition with next-to-no marks at all on the highly glossy vinyl. The sleeve is in at least strong excellent condition, with just some minor 'corner wear' and very mild edge wear in a few places. The vinyl and labels for 'Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now' are in strong excellent condition, with only very light 'hairline' surface marks on the glossy vinyl in a few places. The sleeve is also in strong excellent condition, with just some light creasing towards the mouth of the sleeve but no seam-splitting or other significant signs of wear. In the case of 'How Soon Is Now?', the vinyl and labels are in strong excellent condition, with some light surface marks on the vinyl in a few places; the record has clearly been played but has been well looked-after. The sleeve is also in strong excellent condition, with just some minor wear in a few places but no seam-splitting or significant signs of creasing. The vinyl and labels for 'Shakespeare's Sister' are in strong excellent condition, with only very light surface marks on the glossy vinyl in a few places. The sleeve is also in strong excellent condition, with just some light creasing in one or two places but no seam-splitting or other significant signs of wear. In the case of 'That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore', the vinyl and labels are in strong excellent condition with just light surface marks in one or two places on the still-glossy vinyl. The sleeve is also in strong excellent condition, with just some minor wear towards the corners and edges but no seam-splitting or significant signs of creasing. Please see the accompanying photos for more detail; note that the 'Ebay ID' lettering is just on the pictures and not on the items themselves.
All my auctions start at 1P and have NO RESERVE. They are all 100% genuine, original versions. Some are in mint/new condition and some are used; all will go to the highest bidder. I offer a money-back guarantee if anything is described incorrectly. Postage and Packing is 3.00 in the UK for untracked and uninsured standard postage, this is subsidised by myself and the actual costs to me will usually be higher. Please do consider paying the extra 70p for tracked postage since there is nothing that can be done to find out what happened if the parcel is lost when standard postage is chosen. Shipping costs are greater for overseas buyers, but still subsidised and very good value; please check prices by using the options above or feel free to ask. Extra items are sent at no extra postage charge to the buyer (see below). I always take great care to package items well with strong mailing materials.See my other auctions for related rare items here. If multiple auctions are won at the same time (within a week), I will charge only the postage cost for the heaviest item and pay the remainder myself. This is the case wherever you live. If you are planning to bid, but cannot be around at the end of the auction, I have found this free site to be useful; note that I am not affiliated with the site in any way!
