Description

The experience of buying records on Ebay is ruined if, when they arrive, you discover that they are either not in the condition stated or have been damaged in the post! For this reason I describe all my items in detail, and only post using strong sturdy packaging in a 'box' mailer with the record outside the sleeve to avoid seam-splitting. They are also from a non-smoking and pet-free home.
I accept returns and offer a full refund if you are not happy with your purchase.

The Smiths - Debut Album and 'The Queen Is Dead' Polish Pressing Vinyl LPs - 1984/1986

Catalogue nos. SX-T 115, and SX-T 153 - Tonpress Records

This auction is for two rarely-seen original 1980s Smiths pressings from Poland on the 'Tonpress' label under official license from Rough Trade, rather than bootlegs or unofficial versions. There are many subtle differences in the sleeves and labels which are unique to these pressings. The debut LP has 'Tonpress' credits on the reverse of the outer and inner sleeves (see photos) and the "The Smiths" lettering on the front of the outer sleeve is slightly more 'pink' than for the UK version. In addition, the inner sleeve has been printed with a different tint; the background picture is fainter and more subtle on this Polish pressing. The labels of the vinyl are a terrific deep red colour and have both the 'Tonpress' and 'Rough Trade' logos on them. With respect to 'The Queen Is Dead', the outer gatefold sleeve, for reasons unknown, has been printed in a distinctly lighter and brighter shade of green than for other countries; the reverse of the sleeve also has the 'Tonpress' credits in pink. The inner sleeve has the green text printed in a bright shade of green, which is noticeably different to other countries; presumably to match the outer sleeve. The record labels for 'The Queen Is Dead' are, again, a superb deep red colour in a similar style to the debut LP. These original pressings of these Polish LPs rarely appear for sale, and these copies have survived in remarkably collectable condition (see below).

The vinyl and labels for the debut LP are in superb near mint condition, with barely any superficial surface marks at all on the highly-glossy vinyl; it appears to have been played very little and has been very well looked-after. The thin paper inner sleeve, remarkably, has no splits or tears and no creases anywhere, and the outer sleeve is in strong excellent condition with just some mild corner wear but no seam-splitting or 'ring wear'; similarly there is no creasing or writing anywhere, there is just one very small region on the reverse of the sleeve where the surface colour has rubbed but this is not overly noticeable and does not spoil the appearance of the sleeve. The vinyl and labels of 'The Queen Is Dead' are also in near mint condition, with next-to-no marks on the highly-glossy vinyl; the record has clearly hardly ever been played. The unique inner sleeve is in terrific condition, with no splits, writing or tears. The superb gatefold outer sleeve is in strong excellent condition, with just mild corner wear and edge 'rubbing' in a few places. There are no significant creases, and there are no rips or instances of seam-splitting. There is again just a very small region on the reverse where the surface colour has rubbed away, which is not obtrusive or highly noticeable. These are terrifically-collectable examples of these rare records which are seldom seen on the market. Please see the accompanying photos for more detail; note that the 'Ebay ID' lettering is just on the pictures and not on the items themselves.

All my auctions start at 1P and have NO RESERVE. They are all 100% genuine, original versions. Some are in mint/new condition and some are used; all will go to the highest bidder. I offer a money-back guarantee if anything is described incorrectly. Postage and Packing is 3.50 in the UK for untracked and uninsured standard postage, this is subsidised by myself and the actual costs to me will usually be higher. Please do consider paying the extra 70p for tracked postage since there is nothing that can be done to find out what happened if the parcel is lost when standard postage is chosen. Shipping costs are greater for overseas buyers, but still subsidised and very good value; please check prices by using the options above or feel free to ask. Extra items are sent at no extra postage charge to the buyer (see below). I always take great care to package items well with strong mailing materials.

See my other auctions for related rare items here. If multiple auctions are won at the same time (within a week), I will charge only the postage cost for the heaviest item and pay the remainder myself. This is the case wherever you live. If you are planning to bid, but cannot be around at the end of the auction, I have found this free site to be useful; note that I am not affiliated with the site in any way!
