Description

The experience of buying records on Ebay is ruined if, when they arrive, you discover that they are either not in the condition stated or have been damaged in the post! For this reason I describe all my items in detail, and only post using strong sturdy packaging in a 'box' mailer with the record outside the sleeve to avoid seam-splitting. They are also from a non-smoking and pet-free home.
I accept returns and offer a full refund if you are not happy with your purchase.

The Smiths - 'Sheila Take A Bow' White Label Promo 12" and Press Release - 1987

Catalogue no. RTT 196 - Rough Trade Records

Before the pressings of the standard 12" singles began, 'white label' pressings were produced in limited quantities and often sent to radio stations, etc, as promotional items in advance of the release of the single. The vinyl can be identified by their catalogue numbers (here, RTT 196) and the well-known message etchings which appear on the run-out grooves; the matrix numbers indicate the very first pressing run. This example is particularly collectable in that it is not only in superb condition (see below), but it also comes with the original press sheet which is rarely seen. This press sheet has a photocopy of the sleeve artwork on one side, and information about the upcoming release of 'Sheila Take A Bow' from Rough Trade on the other. The ageing and appearance of the press sheet indicates that it is indeed an original and not a photocopy, and it is very hard to find examples of this press sheet these days. Finally, there is a Scott Piering 'Appearing' sticker on the reverse of the outer sleeve over the bar code which adds to the desirability of this promotional item. This is a terrific item which is hardly ever found in such a complete and interesting state.

The vinyl and labels are in strong excellent condition, with only light hairline surface marks on the vinyl in a few places. The words "SMITHS", "Sheila" and "RTT 196" are written neatly in pen on the white label of the A-side. The original black die-cut inner sleeve is present and intact. The press sheet is in excellent condition, with minor signs of handling and ageing in keeping with an item which is 25 years old. There are no marks and there is no writing on the sheet, and it has been folded neatly into four at some point. The outer sleeve is in strong excellent condition, with only light corner wear in a few places and no splits or tears; and there are neither any creases in the sleeve. The Scott Piering promotional sticker is intact on the reverse. Please see the accompanying photos for more detail; note that the 'Ebay ID' lettering is just on the pictures and not on the item itself.

All my auctions start at 1P and have NO RESERVE. They are all 100% genuine, original versions. Some are in mint/new condition and some are used; all will go to the highest bidder. I offer a money-back guarantee if anything is described incorrectly. Postage and Packing is 2.50 in the UK for untracked and uninsured standard postage, this is subsidised by myself and the actual costs to me will usually be higher. Please do consider paying the extra 70p for tracked postage since there is nothing that can be done to find out what happened if the parcel is lost when standard postage is chosen. Shipping costs are greater for overseas buyers, but still subsidised and very good value; please check prices by using the options above or feel free to ask. Extra items are sent at no extra postage charge to the buyer (see below). I always take great care to package items well with strong mailing materials.

See my other auctions for related rare items here. If multiple auctions are won at the same time (within a week), I will charge only the postage cost for the heaviest item and pay the remainder myself. This is the case wherever you live. If you are planning to bid, but cannot be around at the end of the auction, I have found this free site to be useful; note that I am not affiliated with the site in any way!
