Wishing A Happy New Year To All Ebay Users!!
The experience of buying records on Ebay is ruined if, when they arrive, you discover that they are either not in the condition stated or have been damaged in the post! For this reason I describe all my items in detail, and only post using strong sturdy packaging in a 'box' mailer with the record outside the sleeve to avoid seam-splitting. They are also from a non-smoking and pet-free home.
I accept returns and offer a full refund if you are not happy with your purchase.
The Smiths - Debut Album German Coloured Vinyl Promo LP - 1984
Catalogue no. RTD 25 - Rough Trade Germany
This truly magnificent German promo vinyl limited edition of The Smiths' debut album is considered by some to be the ultimate acquisition for a Smiths collector, owing to the sheer beauty in the appearance of the pressing on multicoloured vinyl with red, green and purple tones radiating from the centre; the result of a technically-difficult manufacturing process from which no two of these LPs are identical. The 2005 edition of the Record Collector Smiths 'Top 100' article, in which this appeared at Number 8, suggests that this promotional-only version of The Smiths' first LP in Germany is "the most beautiful" of all of the original stylish German Rough Trade pressings of The Smiths releases on coloured vinyl, and it would be difficult to disagree. Although the standard commercial German pressing of The Smiths' first LP looked much like that of any other country, this special run of only 500 individually-numbered multicoloured 'marbled' vinyl pressings were produced to promote this release in particular style. This has appeared in the Top 10 of each of the Record Collector 'Top 100 Rarities' articles over the years from 1992 up to the present year, and has rapidly accumulated in estimated value over that time which is a testimony to the soaring value of such pressings as the demand for Smiths and Morrissey rarities continues to accelerate as copies are bought up and stored away by collectors. This one is numbered 174 on the central white label which also carries the track listing and catalogue information. As with all my auctions, I offer the same guarantee of its genuine and original nature with a money-back return if requested. This is a genuinely rare and special original item for any Smiths collector, which continues to be a pleasure to own long after it is acquired. The vinyl and labels are in at least strong excellent condition, with just the faintest of minor 'hairline' surface marks which are only just visible if the record is held to the light. The record has probably been played very few times judging by the labels, but has been extremely well looked after. The multicoloured vinyl looks striking and is simply stunning when held to the light. The labels are very clean and have practically no marks at all, other than a few light 'spindle' marks from minimal play. The picture sleeve is the standard German first LP sleeve which was sent out with many of the copies of this promotional LP and is fairly easily replaced; it is also in strong excellent condition but is slightly more 'worn' than the record itself, having some mild corner and edge wear in a few places. The outer sleeve is one of the very first pressing run of the sleeves whereby the green ink was printed in a slightly darker shade than later copies and, as a result, the lettering can only just be made out against the dark red background on the reverse. The original white paper inner sleeve is present and intact. Please see the accompanying photos for more detail; note that the 'Ebay ID' lettering is just on the pictures and not on the item itself.
All my auctions start at 1P and have NO RESERVE. They are all 100% genuine, original versions. Some are in mint/new condition and some are used; all will go to the highest bidder. I offer a money-back guarantee if anything is described incorrectly. Postage and Packing is 3.50 in the UK for untracked and uninsured standard postage, this is subsidised by myself and the actual costs to me will usually be higher. Please do consider paying the extra 70p for tracked postage since there is nothing that can be done to find out what happened if the parcel is lost when standard postage is chosen. Shipping costs are greater for overseas buyers, but still subsidised and very good value; please check prices by using the options above or feel free to ask. Extra items are sent at no extra postage charge to the buyer (see below). I always take great care to package items well with strong mailing materials.See my other auctions for related rare items here. If multiple auctions are won at the same time (within a week), I will charge only the postage cost for the heaviest item and pay the remainder myself. This is the case wherever you live. If you are planning to bid, but cannot be around at the end of the auction, I have found this free site to be useful; note that I am not affiliated with the site in any way!
