The Smiths - 'First Album' German Multicoloured Numbered Promo LP - 1984

This has been the centrepiece of my own Smiths collection, but now I have taken the decision to sell and here is your opportunity to get hold of this incredibly rare and desirable item. The Smiths' first album was promoted in particular style in Germany, where an estimated 500 individually-numbered LPs were pressed on spectacular multicoloured vinyl. This one (numbered 141) is even more unusual in that it does not have the same type of regular smaller 'banded' pattern which is seen on examples of these which are occasionally offered for sale; in fact I bought it on the understanding that it was a mispress due to a fault at the maufacturing plant, and another (differently numbered) example of such a 'mispress' was sold on ebay several years ago (see here). As you can see, the other one looks a lot like the one I am selling and was claimed to be one of only two such 'mispresses' created. Since then I have tried to find out more about this item and it has been suggested that it is not strictly a 'mispress', but rather a rare variation on the more common pattern which is seen on the other examples. Either way, it is a most unusual example of what is already an extremely rare and highly sought-after record amongst Smiths collectors. It is not known how many of these German promo LPs are still in existence and remain in collectable condition, the majority of which are almost certain to be locked up in private collections. The record was listed at Number 2 in the original 1992 Record Collector 'Top 100' article (an article which I have for sale in my other listings), at which stage it was estimated to have a value of 100.00 (by comparison the 'Hand In Glove' negative sleeve rarity had an estimated value of only 80.00). In the 2005 revision of the article it was placed at Number 8 owing to the inclusion of many new items in the list, whereupon it was estimated to be worth 350.00 (see photo). Personally, I paid more than this figure for the record when I bought it on the basis that it was a 'mispress' (or, at least, a very rare example depending upon who you believe). As you can see in the photos, it also comes with the very rare German press release which is itself a nice item not usually present with examples of this rare record. I have no doubt that this is an extremely rare and genuine collectable which may only come along 'once in a lifetime'.The vinyl and labels are in strong excellent condtion, with just some light 'hairline' surface marks which can only be seen if the vinyl is held up to the light at certain angles. These do not detract from the beauty and appearance of this item, and are difficult to see under normal conditions. The press release is in excellent condition, with no marks or damage and only light 'rippling' in places due to signs of use. The sleeve is the stock 'RTD 25' of the German release, and is also in excellent condition.
