Description

The experience of buying records on Ebay is ruined if, when they arrive, you discover that they are either not in the condition stated or have been damaged in the post! For this reason I describe all my items in detail, and only post using strong sturdy packaging in a 'box' mailer with the record outside the sleeve to avoid seam-splitting. They are also from a non-smoking and pet-free home.
I accept returns and offer a full refund if you are not happy with your purchase.

The Smiths - 'Sweet And Tender Hooligan' USA 12" - 1995

Catalogue no. 9 43525-0 - Sire/Reprise Records

This simply stunning record was released only in the USA in 1995 as part of the original short-lived 1990s re-issue series by WEA (Sire/Reprise in the US). While the UK and Europe opted to re-release 'Ask' as a single, the USA chose a far more interesting option in the form of this rarities EP (the B-sides are 'I Keep Mine Hidden', 'Work Is A Four Letter Word' and 'What's The World (Live)', which were all tracks that were extremely difficult tracks to get hold of in the US). The superb artwork is unique to this US release, and this EP was released only as a CD single and this excrutiatingly rare 12" (recently a Rhino 're-issue' 7" version has been released, but this rare 12" has never been re-issued). The record for sale in this auction is therefore the only place to find this artwork in large-scale format. This auction presents a truly remarkable opportunity to get hold of one of these scarce 12"s in its still sealed original state, complete with circular black information sticker on the outer sellophane. This EP failed to chart upon its release in the USA, and this 12" format is incredibly rare by comparison with the more widely-available CD version and was listed at Number 40 by 'Record Collector' magazine in the Smiths 'Top 100 Rarities' article in 2005. This, of course, does not take into account the additional rarity of finding one of these 12" records sealed in its original packaging. A truly outstanding item, which may not appear on the market again in sealed condition for some time to come.

There are no rips or tears in the outer sellophane seal, which appears tight and intact over the record inside. The original sticker is also intact and unmarked on the outer seal. Importantly, there are no beginnings of seam splitting at all in the record sleeve inside which might have happened had the record been allowed to move about inside the sleeve in transit for example. The sleeve inside is therefore pretty much as close to mint as possible, with just the most minor of mild 'bumping' to the top left corner which is barely even visible unless you look closely; all other corners and edges are sharp and near-perfect. Being thorough, there is a mild impression on the reverse due to the record inside which is the first beginnings of 'ringwear' and there is the mildest beginnings of a crease towards the top right corner on the reverse (shown in Photo 3). These 'imperfections' are very minor indeed, and barely detract from the stunning condition of this major rarity. Please see the accompanying photos for more detail; note that the 'Ebay ID' lettering is just on the pictures and not on the item itself.

All my auctions start at 1P and have NO RESERVE. They are all 100% genuine, original versions. Some are in mint/new condition and some are used; all will go to the highest bidder. I offer a money-back guarantee if anything is described incorrectly. Postage and Packing is 2.50 in the UK for untracked and uninsured standard postage, this is subsidised by myself and the actual costs to me will usually be higher. Please do consider paying the extra 70p for tracked postage since there is nothing that can be done to find out what happened if the parcel is lost when standard postage is chosen. Shipping costs are greater for overseas buyers, but still subsidised and very good value; please check prices by using the options above or feel free to ask. Extra items are sent at no extra postage charge to the buyer (see below). I always take great care to package items well with strong mailing materials.

See my other auctions for related rare items here. If multiple auctions are won at the same time (within a week), I will charge only the postage cost for the heaviest item and pay the remainder myself. This is the case wherever you live. If you are planning to bid, but cannot be around at the end of the auction, I have found this free site to be useful; note that I am not affiliated with the site in any way!
