Description
The experience of buying records on Ebay is ruined if, when they arrive, you discover that they are either not in the condition stated or have been damaged in the post! For this reason I describe all my items in detail, and only post using strong sturdy packaging in a 'box' mailer with the record outside the sleeve to avoid seam-splitting. They are also from a non-smoking and pet-free home.

Collecting original 1980s pressings of The Smiths' vinyl from around the world is made all the more interesting by the subtle differences in the record labels, packaging and sleeves which are often present. This auction is for the original 1988 German pressing of the 'Rank' LP, which was released on the 'Rough Trade Germany' label. Interestingly, the same outer gatefold sleeve appears to have been used for this German pressing and the Dutch 'Megadisc' pressing since the reverse of the sleeve has the dual credits 'MD 7900' and 'RTD 90' in the top right corner as well as having dual credits at the bottom on the reverse. The record labels are, however, unique to this German pressing, having only the 'RTD 90' catalogue number and 'GEMA' logo. The original German 'RTD' sticker is also still present on the reverse in the top right corner (see photo); this is still neatly attached and no attempt has been made to remove it. This copy is of particular interest to collectors, as it comes with an original 'Rough Trade Germany' press sheet which describes several releases in German text as well as the 'Rank' LP. This is an opportunity to get hold of an original German pressing and press sheet, which have been stored in superb condition (see below).The record and labels are in near mint condition, being possibly unplayed and with practically no discernable surface marks at all on the highly-glossy vinyl. The inner sleeve has no creases or seam-splitting and the press sheet is similarly intact and having only one small discernable crease which is not overly visible. The outer gatefold sleeve is in at least strong excellent condition, with no discernable creases or any signs of seam-splitting. The spine and edges remain sharp and strong, and there is only some very minor beginnings of wear to the corners in one or two places. Please see the accompanying photos for more detail; note that the 'Ebay ID' lettering is just on the pictures and not on the item itself.
