The experience of buying records on Ebay is ruined if, when they arrive, you discover that they are either not in the condition stated or have been damaged in the post! For this reason I describe all my items in detail, and only post using strong sturdy packaging in a 'box' mailer with the record outside the sleeve to avoid seam-splitting. They are also from a non-smoking and pet-free home.

The Smiths - 'This Charming Man New York Re-Mix' UK 12'' - 1983

This auction is for a copy of the 'New York Re-Mix' version of the UK 12" single release of 'This Charming Man', which has the 'New York Vocal' and 'New York Instrumental' versions of the track on the A- and B-sides respectively. It was first released in December 1983, and the first pressing run, to which this belongs, carried the 'capitol dome' style 'Rough Trade' logo on the record labels and sleeve. This design of the logo was later famously changed by Rough Trade to remove the 'dome' aspect of the logo, which was too similar to the classic 'Capitol Records' logo, and then subsequently changed again to the 'rubber stamp' design. This copy is unusual in that someone at the 'Rough Trade' record company has overlayed the logos on both the record labels and sleeve with official 'Rough Trade' circular stickers, which carry the later 'rubber stamp' logo design, so that the record could be sold without breaching copyright laws (see photos). In the case of the back of the record sleeve, two stickers were needed to cover the larger size of the logo. Although this may have been the intention of the 'Rough Trade' record label, it is actually very rare to find 12" copies which have been overlayed in this way and, although I have come across several 7" singles to which the stickers have been applied, I have never seen another copy of the 'New York Re-Mix' 12" which has been modified in this way.The vinyl and labels are in superb near mint condition, appearing to have been played once or twice only and having only the very lightest of 'hairline' superficial surface marks in a one or two places on the highly-glossy vinyl. The rare modified outer sleeve is in excellent condition, and would be graded more highly but for a region in the centre of the upper edge of the sleeve where a split has begun to break through the surface. Other than this, there are no major signs of wear other than some corner and edge wear in a few places. Please see the accompanying photos for more detail; note that the 'Ebay ID' lettering is just on the pictures and not on the item itself.
