Description
This is a rare one. A gold labeled U.S. copy of the 1st Stooges lp. EKS - 74051. Many people erroneously believe the red red label version of this lp is THE 1st press. Wrong. There are 1st press red labels, but this came before them. I have owned all gold label vinyl copies of this lp ever to be produced. Whether it is Canada, Germany, where ever, those copies clearly state the country of origin. This one doesn't. Secondly Elektra was phasing out the gold labels and phasing in the red labels around this time. The best explaination of this I ever heard was courtesy of a fellow on the Steve Hoffman forums. Elektra went green long before it was fashionable. They had some leftover gold labels and used each and everyone up rather than discard them. Plus this cover has a punch hole which would seem to denote even further that this is the true U.S 1st pressing. Handwritten deadwax. Vinyl Looks VG, plays VG+. Cover is VG. Rubbing, promo punch hole and damage surrounding punch hole. Light edge wear and moderate discoloration on white back sleeve top and right. NO split seams (not even close). A strong sturdy cover. No writing, pin holes or tape marks.
Play graded on a Rega P3 with rewired RB 300 tonearm and Dynavector 10X5 cartridge. Results may vary.
