The Subversives “ On The Wild Side” / Ortin Freenie & The Subversives “Mrs. Khrushchev, Honey Baby"Lute Records, L-6228, USA, 1962/63, PROMO
Of interest to me because both tracks were arranged and co-produced by a young Scott Engel (Scott Walker of The Walker Brothers) along with John Stewart, as denoted by “Produced by Alec-Noel” on the labels. Also the a-side is actually co-written by Eddy Kay, Scott Engel and John Stewart, who worked together on many early 60’s singles both as artists and producers/writers/arrangers before Scott went off with The Walker Brothers. You’ll not find this reference in any of the biographies, it was pure chance I happened to notice this on a label I was viewing. While the a-side is OK, the b-side must be one of the worst songs I’ve ever listened too.
