The Tennors – ‘The Stage’ / ‘Copy Me Donkey’ – Island 3140 (UK)
Simply one of the finest recordings out of Jamaica ever! The Tennors’ version of The Fantastic Four’s ‘The Whole World Is A Stage’ – with Ronnie Davis on lead vocals – is simply sublime, and a bonafide reggae classic. Nothing wrong with ‘Copy Me Donkey,’ the original topside, but ‘The Stage’ is the stuff of which legends are made.
And this is arguably its finest incarnation, on an original UK Island single. Please listen to a clip from the record here:
Condition: Excellent to near mint. Listening to it, I cannot fault it at all. The only – relatively minor – gripe would be the merchant stamps and the ‘V’ on the flipside (‘The Stage’) label. The topside label (‘Copy Me Donkey’) is ever so slightly smudged (please see scans).
