Original Verve Records West Coast, H.V. Waddell, Burbank, CA promotional Mono release of “The Velvet Underground & Nico”s debut album. The cover of this album is one of the most recognizable ones due to the Andy Warhol’s banana print. Original 1st state uncensored gatefold cover with the fully visible image of the actor Eric Emerson. The 1st print cover is also known as the “Torso” cover. Original “D.J. Samples Promotional Copies” white sticker. There is an incredibly rare pressing of The Velvet Underground & Nico which we've come across with several times only on the commercial copies. This is the first time we've encountered a sudden increase in volume on the “Venus in Furs” track right after Lou Reed sings "Comes in bells, your servant, don't forsake him..." on a promotional copy of this album. This mysterious circumstance has several interpretations with one of them being an assumption that someone in the recording studio accidentally moved the master volume knob during the mastering session. 1st print white / black T-shape Verve logo deep groove 2.75” pressing ring V-5008 “NOT FOR SALE” promotional labels. “Black Angel's Death Song” timing is misprinted as "3:01" (instead of 3:10). Original 1st US West Coast, H.V. Waddell, Burbank, CA heavyweight promotional pressing vinyl with the 1st matrix numbers: Side 1: V-5008-S-1 MG-558-REV; Side 2: V-5008-S-2 MG-559. The album comes with the original "The Wit of America is on Verve" paper inner sleeve.

The cover is in magnificent Near Mint Minus condition. I grade the vinyl as Very Good. It retains its factory gloss but has some light surface hairlines and marks as well as scuffs from the original inner sleeve which is in Near Mint Minus condition and doesn't have any splits or tears. In spite of the vinyl being in Very Good condition visually, it sounds amazing and I would grade its audio as Excellent Minus. It has some light occasional static and only a series of light ticks in the beginning of Side 1. Perhaps they will disappear if you change the balance of your tonearm. Most likely, the static and ticks also could get reduced or go away if the record was professionally cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine.
