Description
When the single Walk-Don't Run hit the charts, it shot up to #2, and quite rapidly. Bob Reisdorf, of Dolton Records, hurried to get 2 things done. Get the boys in the studio to record enough additional tunes to create an LP, and get them out on the road for appearances. In the scramble, he forgot to do a photo shoot for the front cover, which needed to be in color, so he got some Dolton employees to pose for the pic you always see on the front. For the back, they used one of the B&W promo shots they already had, which is what's on the back of the copy you're selling. Since the Ventures were brand new, and people didn't yet know what they looked like, as soon as a batch of the the LPs hit the shelves, there were complaints of confusion about the front & back people not being the same , , , so, "which ones were The Ventures?" So, Dolton immediately halted distribution, and just so happened that one of their employees was a sketch artist, who came up with an outline sketch of the picture that was on the back, and they reprinted. Nobody knows how many copies with the real photo got out there, but they are extremely rare.
