Description

The Wild Tchoupitoulas is a landmark New Orleans recording that brings together the traditions of the Mardi Gras Indians with the city's legendary funk scene. Produced by Allen Toussaint, the album features Art, Charles, Aaron, and Cyril Neville performing together years before they officially formed The Neville Brothers, backed by members of The Meters. The result is one of the defining recordings of New Orleans music, blending Mardi Gras Indian chants with infectious funk rhythms and soulful performances.

This 1978 U.S. Pitman pressing on Antilles Records (AN 7052) includes classics such as Brother John, Meet De Boys on the Battlefront, Hey Pocky A-Way, Mardi Gras Mambo, and Sew Sew Sew. The album's influence extends well beyond funk, serving as a cornerstone of New Orleans musical history and inspiring generations of artists.

Condition

  • Vinyl: VG+ with excellent gloss and only a few light superficial scuffs. A clean, well-preserved copy that has been carefully handled.
  • Jacket: VG with moderate edge and corner wear consistent with age and use. Worn, but structurally sound and fully intact, presenting well overall.

A desirable Pitman pressing of a New Orleans funk classic and an essential addition for collectors of The Meters, Allen Toussaint, funk, and Louisiana music.

A Note About Grading

We strive to grade conservatively and accurately using Goldmine grading standards. Unless otherwise noted, records are visually graded and not play-tested. Vintage vinyl may exhibit occasional surface noise or other playback characteristics that are not apparent through visual inspection alone. We do our best to identify any notable flaws, but minor imperfections may not always be visible. Thank you for supporting a small seller dedicated to preserving and rehoming records.
