Description
Mega rare vinyl LP with one of the last ever concerts by the legendary Yardbirds, featuring Jimmy Page on lead guitar. The concenrt was recorded at the March 30, 1968 show at New York's Anderson Theater, which had resulted in Epic's 1971 LP "Live YardBirds feat. Jimmy Page", which is itself a very rare and sought-after album... and usually very expensive!!!
But the funny thing is... this "Last Hurrah in the Big Apple" bootleg is MUCH better than the official (and now extremely rare and expensive) "Live Yardbirds featuring Jimmy Page".
Why?
The official release had the original recording tampered with... Epic decided to add awful, fake applause in the mix! This is the main reason why Jimmy Page, then at the heights of Led Zep fame, decided to get the record withdrawn - it sounded shit!
But, thank the Lord for those drug-addled bootleg people from the 70s... they managed to put out this amazing "Last Hurrah in the Big Apple", which has great sound quality - direct from the mixing desk - but without the "bullfight roars" (as described by Page) of Epic's hard-to-find release. Wasn't just the usual crowd noise enough????
I have other Yardbirds bootlegs with Jimmy Page, but this one is the one that definitely sounds the best, and is an essential listening for Yardbirds fans, Jimmy Page enthusiasts and Led Zepelin fanatics. This is where it all started - you can hear teh origins of Led Zep in Page's blistering guitar work... simply fantastic.
This vinyl is in EXCELLENT condition, no jumps, almost as new to my eyes and ears. In fact, it hasn't been listened to much since the 1970s, by the looks of it - it's still in the original shrink wrap!
