An early mono pressing of the Monk/Rollins originally issued in 1954. This an early state of the 1959 PRLP 7169 issue with the following features: deep grooved yellow-ochre and black fireworks labels with the "203 South Washington Street, Bergenfield, NJ" address (moved from NYC in '58); deadwax with the early correction, viz. etched RVG PRLP-7075 [etched out, replaced below by "7169"]-A AB; RVG EX [etched out] PRLP-[indecipherable # etched out, presumably 7075]-7169-B [below the etching] AB. Labels read HI FI, sleeve reads HIGH FIDELITY. Sleeve carries same address. Label edge printed, not blank.

An Excellent record in a VG+ sleeve with the inner sleeve replaced by a modern Nagaoka anti-static. Labels are clean with touches of spindle swipe, and there's a hint of whitening at the edge of the hole on the B side. Side A is very clean and glossy with perhaps 6 small marks (hairline, small needle bruise). Side B is even cleaner with a few very small marks and very small & faint hairlines. The record earned its grade on PLAY: the sides are very clean and aside from some very short-lived static and very light crackle to open A1 and B1 there are no grounds for fault at all. The sleeve is very appealing: light shadow to the front, same to rear with a little overall darkening to the rear as well; a touch of discoloration around the right edge of the rear from an old dampstain, but mild; faint "Art Carlisle Jazz" penned to the upper right of the rear. Very clean edges with a little rubbing to the corners and a small nick between "Thelonious" and "Monk". Very small (1/8" to 1/4") splits to the top and bottom edge at the opening. Very pleasing. LP weight: 160g.
