Description
Thelonious Sphere Monk is one of the giants of American music whose output ranks with that of Jelly Roll Morton and Duke Ellington, as composition of the highest order. The idiosyncracies of his music were rooted in the quirks of his character. Monk was a very odd man. He would seldom speak, and when he did, what he said was usually quite bizarre. For many years his mind seemed to be straddling a fine line between sanity and madness. Whatever one might have thought of him personally, his musical genius has never been questioned.
From 1965....Monk's only solo record for CBS Records, aptly titled 'Solo Monk'. The copy I am offering is the very first UK Mono pressing (BPG 62549) of this title. The audio is simply outstanding in every way....clear, bold, detailed, balanced, and distortion-free. An absolute gem and I'm quite certain there isn't a cleaner copy out there.
Condition of Jacket: NM....beautiful mirror-like shine to the front laminated cover....colors are striking and vivid.....spine and flipbacks are near-perfect. Comes with it's original poly-lined inner-sleeve.
Condition of Record: Near Mint......superb condition....Like-New glossy shine to both sides.....one can almost make a case that this record is unplayed. The record is thick and heavy and must weigh close to 170g...very impressive. The audio is simply beyond belief....'Master Tape' caliber would not be an overstatement. This one will never need an upgrade.....a real treasure.
