Thin Lizzy Greatest Hits

Description Details

Thin Lizzy are one of the icons of British rock. Over time they have influenced countless other bands, but no other band has ever sounded like them.

In 1969, school friends Phil Lynott and Brian Downey as well as Eric Bell and Eric Wrixon founded the hard rock band in Dublin. After a few initial appearances, Thin Lizzy, who initially had a fairly versatile sound with influences from Irish folklore, blues, R'n'B, pop, rock and hard rock, got a contract with Decca just a year later. The musicians moved to London and from there their great career began.

They first gained attention with their version of the Irish folk song “Whiskey In The Jar,” which they actually recorded rather casually in 1972. The song reached number one in Ireland, number six in the UK and number seven in Germany. Twelve studio albums and a few more hits followed before their dissolution in 1983.

And this is exactly what Thin Lizzy’s “Greatest Hits” album is dedicated to. The compilation was originally released on double CD in 2004 and is now also available on vinyl.

In contrast to the CD version, the double LP contains 22 instead of 36 songs, which were put together together with Thin Lizzy expert Nick Sharp. Nevertheless, every essential song that the rock legends recorded between 1972 and 1983 is included here. These include "The Boys Are Back in Town", "Whisky In The Jar", "Waiting For An Alibi", "Dancing In The Moonlight", "Jailbreak", "Don't Believe A Word" and many more. The entire tracklisting of the »Greatest Hits« including audio samples can be found below.

Thin Lizzy's "Greatest Hits" was certified platinum in the UK and triple platinum in Ireland.

About Us

Our founding year in 1998 - long after vinyl was declared dead and long before vinyl was celebrated as a cool thing again - proves that we are real vinyl nerds. We started out as a small record dealer from home. Later we opened our first real record store and then of course our own online shop. Everything out of passion and always with the motto: SAVE THE VINYL. What is not available online is available in our store in Übersee, Frühlingsweg 22. Overseas? Yes. Overseas at Chiemsee. Directly on the A8 motorway, between Munich and Salzburg. Here you will also find a fine selection of second-hand vinyl.
We also have a large selection of equipment from many manufacturers. Simply everything you need for vinyl...
