I use a grading system based on the Goldmine Grading Guide to rate the records I sell. I test-play every record I sell on high-quality equipment and make every effort to grade all media/sleeves accurately. I have summarized it below. Note that there is no sliding scale: a record packaged in 1950 must meet the same standards as one pressed last year.
    Near Mint (NM) – Nearly perfect. Vinyl has no visible defects. Cover has no signs of wear.
    Excellent – Except for a few minor things, it would be NM. Vinyl imperfections are purely cosmetic. Cover has only minor signs of wear.
    Very Good + (VG+) – A few more light scuffs and scratches than on an Excellent record, but the listening experience is still not hindered. Cover may have a defect or two (a cutout, for instance) but is otherwise very nice.
    Very Good (VG) – Scratches/scuffs are more prominent, so surface noise is more frequent. Cover has many signs of human handling.
    Good – Plays without skipping, but has significant surface noise.  Cover imperfections are distracting.
