Skid Row "New Places Old Faces" 1969 - Song Records - SO 0002
Side One Matrix#: 101.A-IT Side Two Matrix#: 101.B-IT
This is a real holy grail for Thin Lizzy and Skid Row collectors featuring Phil Lynott's debut recording on vinyl. This record must have been pressed in insanely small quantities in Ireland as it is almost impossible to find (the last copy sold on eBay almost ten years ago). Added to that is the fact that the master tapes are lost so don't expect a repress any time soon. Side one is "New Places Old Faces" a hauntingly beautiful acoustic number sung by Lynott with tin whistle accompaniment courtesy of Johnny Moynihan (Sweeney's Men) and Gary Moore on guitar. Moore takes over vocal duties on side two for the jazz/rock stormer "Misdemeanour Dream Felicity" featuring Brush Shiels on Bass and Robbie Brennan on drums. Both tracks were produced by Donal Lunny and recorded at Eamonn Andrews' Studios in Dublin.
The record was only ever pressed once and never had a picture sleeve; this particular copy comes in a plain white sleeve. The labels are clean and intact apart from the initials of a previous owner written very lightly in biro on side one (see photos). Many collectors would be happy to own this record in any shape or form due to its extreme scarcity but I think I should try to describe the condition in some detail. Like so many surviving 7" singles from the 60s, this record has a lot of little scratches (mostly hairlines) and a few scuffs. Mostly the scratches add a little bit of crackle during the quieter passages but in no way overwhelm or detract from the music. One relatively large scuff on side one can be heard in the background for a portion of the song but it isn't really a big deal. I have made a recording of the record and you can listen to it here:

The recording was made on a Technics 1210MK2 turntable with a Stanton N500S stylus. As you will hear, there are absolutely no skips or loud ticks. Their is some audible distortion to Lynott's vocal from time to time which I think is partly due to it being mastered so high in the mix. The effect may be lessened when played on a different system. The record is graded as GOOD, please do not hesitate to contact me with any queries you may have in relation to this auction.
I just noticed while playing the A side that if you isolate the right channel and listen to it on its own it sounds a lot better (no buzzing).
