Description
Original UK pressing on the obscure York label from 1974. The gatefold sleeve is near mint and the record is in excellent condition.
An artist overdue for rediscovery and cult status. Tim Hollier went on to set up The Songwriters Workshop record label, which featured Peter Sarstedt, Juice On The Loose and The Broughtons. (Incidentally Hollier played mandolin on Boulevard from Sarstedt's debut album.) He later founded Filmtrax which became the largest british independent music publishing company (sold to EMI in 1990 for $100 million dollars!!!). Over the years he has created much in film music and was responsible for publishing scores as varied as "Withnail And I", "Mona Lisa", "Room With A View" and "Wilde". He's now very active in the British academy of composers and authors.

One of the period's more distinctive singer-songwriters, Hollier usually co-wrote his songs, principally with Rory Fellowes. The songs explore isolation, nature, time, ancient landscapes and the world of dreams, but there are also a few pretty love songs. His fine voice blends well with John Cameron's orchestral arrangements. Such serious lyrical fare is uplifted by touches of woodwind and harp, conveying mystery and wonder rather than depression or fear. His least obscure song is probably Cameron's Flowers In the Morning. The second album has several live tracks, while the first and third have the more elaborate arrangements. Sky Sail is probably Hollier's finest moment but it seems to have sold poorly at the time.
The fourth album is a definite oddity. Mill Reef was a champion British racehorse, and the York label, a subsidiary of Yorkshire TV, now appears to be of interest to collectors chiefly through sheer rarity. Hollier's five songs here are pleasant but uninvolving, and the album is padded out with spoken extracts and racing commentaries. Not worth the three-figure sum asked by some dealers.
