Description
Any Jazz fiends out there? This a title everyone should have in their collection.... it needs no introduction<<
An original Stereo 1st Press in the USA on Columbia Six-Eye [Super collectable]. Matrix 2AE/2BC. The labels correct for 1960 and remember back then few people would have been purchasing this title in Stereo. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original Stereo cover. We have housed the record in a CBS UK advertising inner from the mid sixties [Not correct obviously]. But this is the traditional CBS orange - and that looks good!
Vinyl (Ex/Ex-) Has only seen relatively light use and has not been abused. Remember you need to be particularly careful with stereo records and I'm pleased this copy has survived the years in terrific condition. Yes, you'll see a couple of light superficial trails and a few light marks. But nothing that's really going to cause this copy much issue. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with just a couple of minor deviations. At this level let me assure you this LP is sounding pretty damn dandy. It's got all that lovely ambience and vibrancy of early jazz. Some great audio was pressed onto these early copies. You just need to find an example that has seen only careful use. What I particularly like is the presence on the brass and that the cymbal decay seems well preserved. To me - that's a sign of a lightly used copy. The transients are usually the first to disappear. Overall I'm really liking the rendition. Given the vintage - highly impressive. By and large pretty clean signalled. You might detect a touch of low-level static in one quiet passage per side [e.g. quietest moments of Meadow Lark].. But absolutely nothing upfront that would irritate or distract. You can really hear the percussive elements deep into the mix - that is a really good sign. I did pick out a couple of slight ticks in one isolated spot on side 1 and a solitary tick as 'Kathy's Waltz' starts up. Highly recommended. A total time traveller. Take Five plays practically perfect!!
Cover (VG) Don't write that grading off. Most original Jazz titles from this era - particularly USA copies are going to look like whack now. The front, here, is solid and exhibits a bit f light ageing but no nasty wear. The rear has tanned a good bit - realistically that's gonna be hard to avoid on this vintage. Edges are in pretty good nick with much less wear than you typically find. A 1c.m. split to bottom opening edge [ no big deal]. Spine is 95% intact - much better than you'd typically find. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity in part thanks t the heavy card employed in manufacture.
Inner (Vg) NO splits. Light ageing.
