Description
If it's possible for an album to be both of its time and ahead of its time, this is that album. Psychedelic guru "Dr" Timothy Leary delivers three 'raps' (they actually sound kind of like press conferences - the album was a fund-raising effort for Leary's candidacy for the Governorship of California) over a psychedelic jam which happens to feature some of the iconic musicians of the era (Stephen Still & John Sebastian - guitars, Jimi Hendrix - bass, Buddy Miles - drums). In fact, Leary's raps, though full of late 60s hippy sentiments ("the pursuit of happiness means the right to get high!") are often surprisingly relevant to the era we find ourselves in now, and are thought provoking whether or not one shares his belief in the benign power of psychedelic drugs. The album even includes some of the first occurrences of sampling, with snippets of the Beatles, Stones and Ravi Shankar making appearances.
The sleeve is, frankly, battered and a bit sunbleached with splits on the seams (though the inner gatefold illustration is great). The beautiful silver and pink psychedelic inner sleeve is in the same state, but the record itself is in excellent condition.
