ARTIST(s) / TITLE - Tina Brooks / The Complete Blue Note Recordings of the Tina Brooks Quintets

Label / Year / Details - Mosaic Records, MR4-106, Stereo, 4LP Box Set, recordings made from 1958 through 1961, issued in 1985. With large glossy booklet containing copious text & pictures.

Vinyl Condition - LPs look barely played & are in NM- condition, booklet is sharp with some very minor creasing.

Jacket Condition - VG+ (very light scuffing, almost NM-)

Description - Amazing compendium of the life's work of Harold Floyd 'Tina' Brooks - a criminally underrecognized hard bop / modern jazz tenor saxophonist who recorded 4 LPs worth of material for Blue Note - much of it never issued during his lifetime ('True Blue', 'Minor Move', 'Back To The Tracks') - plus a handful of dates as a sideman with Freddie Redd, Kenny Burrell, Freddie Hubbard, Jackie McLean, Howard McGhee, and Jimmy Smith. On these recordings, Brooks is accompanied by an array of jazz stars, including Art Blakey, Art Taylor, Jackie McLean, Lee Morgan, Freddie Hubbard, Sonny Clark, Kenny Drew, Paul Chambers, Sam Jones, and Wilbur Ware. Booklet contains commentary by Michael Cuscuna, Robert Palmer, Larry Kart and Ira Gitler, plus rare photos and a complete discography.

SHIPPING: I use LP mailers and corrugated cardboard inserts. ALL boxes marked FRAGILE and DO NOT BEND. I insist that INSURANCE be purchased for LPs ending at a price >$50 US (Domestic US Customers only).

Overseas Customers - If you are paying more than $50 for your LP, I will insist you have it sent via REGISTERED AIR MAIL. Otherwise, I shall not be able to accept PAYPAL as a form of payment.

GRADING: I follow the GOLDMINE method...

Still Sealed (self-explanatory) - I don't like to sell sealed LPs.

Mint (M): Absolutely perfect in every way, opened but never played.

Near Mint (NM or M-) A nearly perfect record with no obvious signs of wear. The LP jacket has no creases, folds, seam splits or other noticeable defects. No cut-out holes, cut corners, etc.

Very Good Plus (VG+) A VG+ record will show some signs that it was played and otherwise handled by a previous owner who took good care of it. Record surfaces may show some signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect one's listening experiences. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are "OK". The label may have some ring wear or discoloration, but it should be barely noticeable. The center hole will not have been misshapen by repeated play.
The LP jacket may have slight signs of wear, and may be marred by a cut-out hole, indentation or corner indicating it was taken out of print and sold at a discount.

Very Good (VG) Many of the defects found in a VG+ record will be more pronounced in a VG disc. Surface noise will be evident upon playing, especially in soft passages and during a song's intro and fade, but will not overpower the music otherwise. Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as with light scratches that will affect the sound. Labels may be marred by writing, or have tape or stickers (or their residue) attached. The same will be true of picture sleeves or LP covers. However, it will not have all of these problems at the same time, only two or three of them.

For me, anything below VG is not worth selling on E-bay (unless it's some sort of Mega-Rarity). The bottom line: a VG record must still be an enjoyable listening experience, despite its flaws.
