Description

Baron Elmo proudly presents a choice vinyl treasure for fans of UK chamber-songsters TINDERSTICKS: a beautiful first-pressing copy of their self-titled debut album, (not to be confused with their 1995 self-titled followup), a double UK import LP released in 1993 by the This Way Up label. This edition was packaged in a beautiful unipak jacket. Tindersticks is a lengthy sojourn into sweet melancholy, flavored with gorgeous arrangements that include shimmering vibes, funereal organ and gorgeous string parts. These somnolent ballads and slices of blues poetry hit hard; the mood of sorrow and resignation is sharp enough to cut your hands. The sonorous voice of frontman Stuart Staples, reminsicent of such bards as Nick Cave and (RIP) Leonard Cohen, is the perfect accompaniment to these dark tales. The songs startle with their emotional directness, often cutting loose with a line that goes down like a belt of cheap whiskey. More than two decades later, this still stands as one of the great albums of its age – and it sounds absolutely smashing on this high-quality import vinyl. Both records and the cover show very slight wear, though the records were only played once to dub onto tape – what wear there is comes from the heavy paper inner sleeves that the LPs came packed in. That said, both records look great and play beautifully.
