Tiny Davis / Dot Houston Chicago Female Jazz 45 (Mr Fink b/w Angel Eyes)
Tiny Davis – “Mr. Fink” b/w Dot Houston – “Angel Eyes” (T D Records 1000). Good late 50s or early 60's Chicago jazz 45 by African American jazz trumpeter and vocalist, Ernestine “Tiny” Davis. Billed as "the hottest female trumpeter in the universe", Ernestine "Tiny" Davis was often called the female Louis Armstrong. She was a member of the all-female International Sweethearts of Rhythm, a popular and innovatively interracial big band that was formed in the late 1930s. In the decades following the career of the band, Davis and her associates became adopted as cultural heroes for the gay rights movement. Davis and Ruby Lucas, who also performed under the name of Renee Phelan, ran a bar called Tiny and Ruby's Gay Spot in Chicago during the 1950s. Mr. Fink” is a humorous recitation with musical backing, but the flip by Houston is an excellent jazz ballad with the Davis band backing her. Record is in strong VG+ to M- condition.
