RARE and BEAUTIFUL - Tommy Johnson (A) "Canned Heat Blues" (B) "Big Fat Mama Blues"
A. Side "CANNED HEAT BLUES", Plays loud & clear no skips, chips, digs, cracks or damage or any kind. No pops, No ticks, no clicks. This side has about 3 extremely light scuffs that do not effect play at all. Only visible when tilting in the light. You can see in the photos. The label has the slightest bit of fading - I mean EXTREMELY light fading - probably from the factory - I am only saying this as I want to be as totally accurate on this record as possible. Beautiful shine and groove condition all the way around. B. Side "Big Fat Mama Blues", Plays loud & clear no skips, chips, digs, cracks or damage or any kind. No pops, No ticks, no clicks. This side has a very light, tiny scratch at the label/runoff area on the left - again almost hard to even photograph its so slight. Beautiful shine and groove condition all the way around. Again - possibly the most EXTREMELY light label fading.

I bought this copy from Les Docks - writer of the American Premium Record Guides several years ago. Rumor has it he uncovered a few of these in a box in a record store basically un-played. He sold them off over the years.
Comes in a brand new Disc-O-File top quality sleeve and the very nice E condition Original Victor Race sleeve. These are not easy to come by and are expensive on their own. Will pack in same box but the sleeve in a clear plastic and separate.
This is a drop dead beautiful copy of a super hard to get and classic late 38000 race series Victor from one of the greatest Blues artists of all time. "Canned Heat Blues" is truly an American classic. I am putting an overall grade of E- on the record because of the light, light scuffs and because it does play with just a light late Victor grainy pressing. Again I am being extremely picky here and as honest as I can be. The sound is fantastic - crisp, clean, loud, and clear - a very, very slight hiss that is totally even on both sides all the way through - again probably from the factory.
This is a KEEPER copy of this record and I can 100% guaranty you will never need nor want an upgrade (if you can get one). ****DON'T hesitate to ask any questions please - I will get back to you very fast!I am a long time and established 78 collector. These records are from my personal collection - see my other listings for great 78s. Some of these records come from the most established collectors in the field. I need to finance a special trip so I had to decide on some 78s to part with - this is a really hard one.
I carefully inspect each record visually and play - Staton 500 with 3.5 mil Eliptical stylus. Played on Dynaco Tube Amp and preamp. Bass and Treble set at middle. Played in mono on Rek-o-Kut Model CVS.

All of my packaging of fragile 78's is done safely by sandwiching the records between sturdy Cardboard (2 layers per side) and surrounding it with padding before placing it in a Cardboard box surrounded by packing peanuts, and the Box is Stamped FRAGILE. ****Higher priced items over $500.00 will be double boxed and will require insurance and additional shipping charges. ****Please wait for my invoice before payment. ****If you do not want insurance on a record shipment you must expressly communicate this to me and take all risks for breakage or damage in shipping. Overseas bidders are welcome, but should be aware of the possibility that, if winnings are of one or two records of minimal value, the cost of mailing could exceed the value of the records. The cost of sending a single 78 rpm record could be $20.00 or more - In any case, winners will be expected to pay promptly. I will not accede to requests to hold records to be combined with future purchases, unless bids are pending on items currently running. Payment by PayPal is required. There is the possibility that parcels may be detained in customs, and subjected to inspection and assessment of duties; these are risks assumed by buyers. I use sturdy cardboard boxes (for 45s and LPs, as well as 78s, where appropriate),and will not use lesser, inadequate packing in order to reduce postage. I have had no losses, but to the extent insurance is unavailable (as with First Class Mail International) or not elected (value for customs and insurance must be the same), risk of loss is buyer's.

78 Record Grading: Accurately grading 78 records can be difficult to a certain degree. The VJM 78 Grading System in my opinion is the most accurate grading system. I am very conservative in the grading - providing full photos of both sides, close up of labels.
The VJM 78 Grading System Is As Follows N As new and unplayed (there are virtually no 78s that can categorically be claimed to be unplayed). N? Nearly Mint, but has been played. No visible signs of wear or damage. E+ Plays like new, with very, very few signs of handling, such as tiny scuffs from being slipped in and out of jackets. E Still very shiny, near new looking, with no visible signs of wear, but a few inaudible scuffs and scratches. E- Still shiny but without the lustre of a new record, few light scratches. V+ is an average condition 78 in which scuffs and general use has dulled the finish somewhat. Wear is moderate but playing is generally free from distortion. Surface noise not overly pronounced. V Moderate, even wear throughout, but still very playable. Surface noise and scratches audible but not intrusive. V- Quite playable still, but distortion and possible heavy greying in loud passages. Music remains loud in most passages. Surface noise and scratches well below music level. G+ Grey throughout but still serviceable. Music begins to sound muffled. Heavy scratches. Music level higher than surface noise. G Quite seriously worn and scratched, but music level is still slightly higher than surface noise. F Most of music remains audible over surface noise, but listening now uncomfortable. Filler copy or wall hanger.
