BACKGROUND TO THIS RECORD:

A leading psych band of the 60s, Tomorrow saw the likes of Steve Howe, Twink, Keith West et al.

In order to reduce costs, the major labels here used to do one of the following:

a) print the covers here but with the vinyl pressed in the country of origin(these are usually identified by a tiny "pi" like symbol on the reverse; or

b) import the covers but press the vinyl here but in such cases the matrix numbers will be scratched in and not machine stamped.

This LP comes housed in a Garrod and Lofthouse sleeve with its triple flipback. However, the label states that it was made in Singapore by EMI Records SEA but the matrix numbers are machine stamped rather than scratched in. I have come across few other LPs here of a similar nature ie the 1st issues of the Beatles "Sgt Peppers" (before they deleted Lucy In The Sky and pressed them here with local printed covers) as well as some early Hollies LPs. 

 The matrix numbers are YEX 667-1 and YEX 668-1

Anyway, I auditioned this against an early US issue and the sonics of this was far greater than the US one which I promptly got rid of

Initially when I posted this LP, it was after the first cleaning ie the 3 stage US made Walker cleaning solution. There was some surface noise. I normally dont do sustained cleaning for fear of increasing static. However,  In view of the high interest,  I cleaned it again and am revising my grading as it actually got better. For information, I usually do a final cleaning using the Loricraft  solution before despatch.

The cover looks Excellent. Though there are no tears or writings, there are some light creases on the laminate. There is no seam split and the wording on the spine is still very sharp and legible. The glue on the flipback is still strong and intact.

The vinyl looks near mint with no visible surface scratches and some light spindle marks on both sides. It maintains its lustre and is mirror like. Tracking at 1.7grams on my Naim ARO/Lyra Helikon SL cartridge, there are some slight surface noise but it was not too intrusive and did not detract from the listening pleasure and I would grade the playing as generally Excellent. 

How I Clean and  Grade my Records 

Cleaning: Cleaning is usually done on a Loricraft PRC 4 cleaning machine using the US made 3 stage Walker Audio cleaning fluid

Playback Equipment: Playback is through a Linn LP12 turntable/Armeggedon/Naim Aro tonearm/Lyra Helikon SL cartridge and through a brace of active Naim 250s/135s into Naim DBL speakers. For 45s I use a second Linn/Lingo/Aro/Linn Troika.

I use both Goldmine and Rare Record Price Guide grading system as a guide and came up with the following:

·       Mint  I only use this for sealed items. The record is virtually unplayed and is in a brand new condition. Cover is pristine. Up till now, I have never used this grading and, chances are, never will, due to my conservative nature in matters of record grading.

·       Near Mint  Very little or negligible flaws. Faint lines or very faint creasing  on laminated covers visible under a strong light is acceptable but nothing serious. Records which show some signs of having been played such as very faint spindle marks are allowed but there should be no lessening in sound quality. .

·       Excellent   Item obviously played, though not often,and enjoyed with some slight noise. The record should be nice and shiny but may have a few light marks which should not intrude on play. Slight wear on cover is acceptable. 

·         Very Good Many more imperfections which are noticeable but not obtrusive. The record has been played several times but there should be no major deterioration in sound quality despite some noticeable surface marks and light scratches. Normal wear and tear or writings on the cover  is acceptable but there should not be any major tears.

I do not offer any records below Very Good  unless its extremely rare.
