Description
Two remarkable musicians/songwriters on this one very rare CBC lp.
The Scott Cushnie side features Jimmy Reed on bass, Dave Russell on drums, Tom Cosgrove on guitar, Terry King-fiddle, and others. With Scott Cushnie on vocal and piano. Songs are: One Track Open, Good Old Days, Bourbon Street, Hometown Boy, Prisoner of Love.
The Tony Kosinec side includes John Capek on keyboards, Rock Homme and Tom Szcesniak on bass, John Andersen and Terry Clarke on drums, Dick Smith on percussion. Songs are: One and Two, Thunder, Any Other Way, Summer Tonight, and Postcard.
Tony Kosinec is, in my opinion, one of Canada's greatest songwriters. Hew was discovered by Columbia Records in the mid 60's and put out two albums. Then later, he had one minor 'hit' called All Things Come From God, and another one that received airplay called Listen to The Hukilau. He is still recording today----and is as great as ever.
The second artist is Scott Cushnie, who recently died and his death made headlines due to a case of mistaken identity.
Here is from his obituary: Scott ‘Professor Piano’ Cushnie, legendary Canadian musician, pianist and blues and boogie-woogie master (1938 - 2018).
His recent passing has left a void felt across the industry and in the hearts of everyone who knew him.
Scott was long ago dubbed "Professor Piano" in response to his encyclopedic knowledge of music. He survived the early days of rock and roll and had more than a few stories to tell from his journey, including performing alongside many greats over his varied career. Musicians like Doug Riley, Robbie Robertson, Jimmy Reed, King Biscuit Boy, Ronnie Hawkins, Duane Allman and Aerosmith, just to name a few!
Scott loved to share his knowledge and love of music. While we weren't able to complete our lessons' series, a documentary on Scott's amazing life is in the works.
