Rare 1952 Original Pressing – Phil Silvers in “Top Banana” Original Broadway Cast Recording on Capitol Records S-308!
Up for sale is a complete, playable set of the original 1952 Capitol Records LP Top Banana (catalog S-308), the legendary Broadway cast album starring Phil Silvers in his Tony Award-winning role. This is the true first pressing on the classic red-and-gold Capitol “Long Playing Microgroove” label – not the later 1977 reissue (T-11650).
History & Significance: Top Banana opened on Broadway at the Winter Garden Theatre on November 1, 1951. Written as a star vehicle for Phil Silvers (later famous as Sgt. Bilko), the show was a smash hit with music and lyrics by the great Johnny Mercer and book by Hy Kraft. It ran for 350 performances and satirized the early days of television variety shows – loosely inspired by Milton Berle’s “Texaco Star Theater.” Silvers won the 1952 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical. The supporting cast included Rose Marie, Joey Faye, Jack Albertson, and more. A film version followed in 1954, but this is the authentic original cast recording that captured the live Broadway magic.

- Jacket: VG – Original full-color front cover art is vibrant. Light shelf wear and minor edge rubbing, but no splits, writing, or major damage. Back cover has complete liner notes, cast photos, and production credits.
- Complete set – Record + original jacket (no inner sleeve, as originally issued).
