Description
Wagner – Tristan und Isolde Birgit Nilsson / Fritz Uhl / Regina Resnik / Tom Krause / Arnold van Mill Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra – Georg Solti Decca SXL 20 026/30-B | 6 LP Stereo Box Set | Germany 1961
Highly desirable early German Decca stereo box set of Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde, conducted by Georg Solti with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and a major cast including Birgit Nilsson, Fritz Uhl, Regina Resnik, Tom Krause and Arnold van Mill.
This is the German Decca SXL issue, catalogue number SXL 20 026/30-B, released in 1961. These early German Decca stereo editions are attractive collector items in their own right: they were issued through the German Telefunken-Decca / TELDEC context and represent a high-quality European Decca presentation of one of the major Wagner recordings of the early stereo era.
Vinyl: very strong VG++ / close to NM The records are clean, glossy and very well preserved. Visually a very strong Very Good++, very close to Near Mint, but not quite perfect. There are a few gentle scuffs and fine hairlines, nothing heavy and nothing visually alarming. A clean and attractive collector copy overall.
Booklet / Libretto: very strong VG++ / close to NM Clean, fresh and very well preserved, also with a pleasant fresh paper scent. Very close to Near Mint, with only minor signs of careful storage.
Box: VG++ (Very Good++) Clean and structurally sound original box with only minor edge wear. Visually appealing and well kept overall.
Collector’s note: A very attractive early German Decca stereo issue of Solti’s Tristan und Isolde. The combination of Decca SXL catalogue, 1961 German stereo release, Vienna Philharmonic, Birgit Nilsson and Georg Solti makes this a serious collector’s opera box — especially in this clean and carefully preserved condition.
