Description

This eponymous album is a classic example of what now seems to be called progressive or acid folk. The core trio of John Stannard, Lyndon Green and American flautist, Ann Steuart, the band was augmented for this album by the rhythm section of Pentangle - Terry Cox on drums and Danny Thompson on bass. The tracks, all self-penned except one (by Ralph McTell), range from gentle sweet songs (very 1970s, long floaty dresses and wondering about the meaning of life) through to slightly disturbing instrumental sounds (The Willow Tree) led by Cox on the drums. The whole thing is immaculately produced with a clarity of sound that allows the guitars, woodwind, piano and pure vocals to shine through. This original LP is now impossible to get hold of, it comes complete with a fantastic gatefold sleeve with a fold-out poster / lyric sheet. Much sought after. It is an album of its time but none the worse for that and it has worn well. Vinyl itself in good condition, cover is a bit worn around the edges LP 1971

This original album, issued on Vertigo Records in the “Spiral Years”, was recorded in Lansdowne Studios, Holland Park, London, engineered by Peter Gallen and produced by Terry Brown. Danny Thompson and Terry Cox from Pentangle featured on double bass and drums. Sonny Condell from Tir Na Nog played bongos on “Recollection”. Several of the tracks featured string arrangements by Graham Lyons. The sleeve artwork (John | Annie | Lyndon) was created by Phil Duffy of P.D. Graphics Ltd. This is an ORIGINAL VERTIGO Catalogue number 6360-043 release it is a very sought after album due to artwork on the gatefold sleeve and the spiral label on side A. This album is rare catch and has generated much interest. From research on the net I can classify this album as:- VINYL RECORD IS Near Mint/Excellent (NM or M-) 1971 Vertigo album in nearly perfect condition. The record has no obvious signs of wear and only minor signs of being played. Record has an almost invisible ring wear or other signs of slight handling. GATEFOLD ORIGINAL COVER AS Very Good (VG) Picture sleeves and LP inner sleeves will have some slight wear. An LP jacket may have slight signs of wear also. In general normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items without any major defects is acceptable I hope this helps any last minute bidders! GOOD LUCK POSTAGE TO BE AGREED UPON COMPLETION OF THE AUCTION. I EXPECT THE BUYER TO COVER THE INSURANCE AND POSTAGE COSTS.
