Twilight Gods In The Twilight Zone assembles a chimeric cross-pollination of American fringe recordings from the long lee of 1960s counterculture. From private-press obscurios to evangelist vanity releases and outsider song-poems, we experience bad-trip Cold War paranoia to ego-drunk religious prophecy, as psyche-folk visionaries, rockabilly lamenters, backwoods preachers and Jesus Freak revivalists collide in a patchwork of sermon, song and apocalyptic warning. As obscure figures such as Jean Alford, Nancy Carol, Children Of The Lord and Dion pepper the record like tabs with their strange off-takes and hidden asides, the record ends on a excerpted tremor broadcast by doors-of-perception opener Aldous Huxley, whose deathbed intravenous LSD request famously coincided with the day of the Assassination of John F. Kennedy. The years 1962 and 1979 were a fever dream of prophecy and dread; and this 500-copy gatefold edition is its strangest but strongest document.
