U2 12" EP WIDE AWAKE IN EUROPE

MEGA RARE RECORD FROM U2 LIMITED TO 5000 Copies

THIS IS BRAND NEW, NEVER PLAYED, but the record jacket/sleeve has DAMAGE. The outer jacket cover has a one inch tear on the bottom, and a one and a half inch tear on the side where the album title is printed. As the case is with most of these, there may be many smaller imperfections on the cover, but there none that are very noticeable here. You can see the actual edge of the bottom of the record in the tear at the bottom, keep in mind, that the outer plastic is still unopened, so the record is still protected.

You have to look at the bottom or the side to see the damage, the front and back cover appear to be mint until you turn the cover on its side. The damage is not bad enough to really take with my low res camera, but it is there. The record is still unplayed

Due to errors by the original manufacturer, this is sold as is, but if you really just want to play the record, you should be happy with this. I can provide email pictures of the damage, but it will not be easy to see with my lower quality camera.

I bought several copies in the first week of release.

The live versions of "Mercy," and "Moment of Surrender" are not available on CD.

"Mercy" is not available on any other U2 release or any other media.

If only 5,000 of these were made, why are there numbers well past 6,000?

This explanation was given from a link from U2.com:

"During the manufacturing process, some jackets get damaged during the numbering process. These jackets are destroyed, but we do not go back and re-set the numbering machine for each damaged jacket. We simply run numbers past 5,000. If we didn’t do this, we would end up with much less than 5,000 total units." Well, they forgot to destroy this one, and did not notice the damaged sleeve after the original purchase. In an odd sort of way, it is a strange collector's item, as this one slipped through the cracks and the cover was not destroyed like most of the other defective one....

Side A features the never before released song "Mercy", recorded in Brussels on 9/22/10. Side B features "I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight", recorded in Dublin on 7/27/09, and a live version of "Moment Of Surrender", recorded in Paris on 9/18/10. The live version of “Crazy” was previously released on the 2009 U2.com member-exclusive remix album "Artificial Horizon."
