Description
This auction is for a Limited Edition UHQR title of Earl Klugh: Finger Paintings, half-speed mastered and issued by Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab in the summer of 1981. The credit also has to go to the Victor Company of Japan (JVC) which developed a new technology in pressing records using Super (virgin) Vinyl which wears least and offers a much better S/N ratio, frequency response and keeps the same performance level no matter how often the UHQR disk is played.
A very talented guitarist, Earl Klugh, Born September 16, 1954, in Detroit, MI, had studied piano and guitar as a child, opting for the guitar as his main instrument before hitting his teens. Klugh was discovered while teaching guitar lessons in a Detroit music store by Yusef Lateef, who used the young guitarist on his 1970 Suite 16.
The most important thing to know about Earl Klugh is that though you will usually find him in the jazz section of your music store, he does not consider himself a jazz artist. He lists Chet Atkins as his biggest influence and considers himself an acoustic guitarist.
He played with Benson throughout the early 1970s (most notably on Benson's 1971 White Rabbit LP), was briefly a member of Return to Forever in 1974, then worked as a sideman with Chick Corea.
Klugh began forging his solo musical path by the late 1970s, becoming famous for mixing funk beats with a strong melody line from which he rarely strays. His music is seldom surprising, but it's consistently listenable and comforting. He has collaborated with Bob James, Hubert Laws, and George Benson, among others, since setting out on his own.
Finger Paintings was recorded in 1977 and released on a Blue Note label.

This particular UHQR record has the Limited Edition Number 3351. It doesn't come with a well-known MFSL UHQR box. I was told that some of the UHQRs were distributed this way. The cover is in great shape except some cracks in the middle of the top and bottom edges. I'll try to make some pics of them.
Record itself is nice and shiny, without any scratches. There are very few, barely visible tiny hair-like marks, but they do not affect play. The sound is impressive!!! I like to play it at higher levels and it is extremely dynamic and clear. Beautiful record. It should be, it is UHQR!
