We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over 18,000 positive feedback. We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Laminated gatefold sleeve the 50 years ago collectible is, decidedly, a rewarding audio experience given the talents as described below.
A Meal You Can Shake Hands With In The Dark contains both infectious song craft woven in complexities with several impressive diverse layers of musical influences. The album mixes an outsider/underground groove with moves mashed together from jazz, rock, blues and folk in a dizzying representation. The opening track, “Dark Lady” is a cacophonous psychedelic-blues piece.
While maybe Brown doesn’t possess a pure voice, he sings with this impact of emotional intensity. There is a certain sinister imagery in the lyrics and the music. “The Old Man” employs a slack-type tuning as Chris Spedding injects some grooves into the guitar runs.
Overall the album incorporates a very late sixties hippie British style spearheaded with forward thinking time signatures including wah-wah, and atmospheric descending lines. Has a high level critics rating from all corners of the globe - for good reason. The intensities of writer vocalist Peter Brown combined with splatter guitar innovations by Chris Spedding adds up to the bottom line here; a storied collectible.

Pete Brown, the English poet was probably best known in the music world for his work with Cream. In 1968 he formed Pete Brown & His Battered Ornaments which released their quite interesting, if bizarre debut album in 1969. The band went on to release another album called "Mantlepiece" later in the same year with their name shortened to The Battered Ornaments.
This first album of theirs is a true diverse mix of different styles ranging from psychedelia to experimental rock and from blues to jazzy stuff. You might expect this kind of album to be an inconsistent totality but that's not the case here. These eight tracks are all more or less great.
A Meal You Can Shake Hands With in the Dark is a pretty lengthy album but shouldn't bore you because of the aforementioned diversity of the material. We can recommend this LP for anyone interested in underground rock music of the late 1960's.
