Description
Maria Callas sings the title role in Cherubini's "Medea" in this classic complete recording on three discs. Tullio Serafin conducts the Orchestra and Chorus of La Scala, and the other soloists include Mirto Picchi and Renata Scotto.
This is UK Columbia stereo SAX 2290-92, a blue silver label set by HMV/EMI from its golden age. The powerful and detailed stereo sound is vivid and extremely dynamic.
This was auditioned with a Goldring 1042 cartridge, and Sennheiser 600 headphones/Epos ES-25 speakers. The three thick, shiny records look nearly perfect--I could only see one non-sounding light scuff in the whole 6 sides. They play superbly, but with a few soft tics only in the first few seconds at the beginnings of sides--thus call them a overall NM- and often better.
The box is clean, bright & intact with no splits and light wear, thus it's a VG+. The leaflet and libretto (which had to be purchased separately) are NM/VG+.
I've added Nagaoka inner sleeves to the originals, and slipped the box into a new Japanese mylar resealable outer sleeve.
