EXQUISITE BRITISH FOLK/PSYCH LEGEND
TREES
On The Shore
UK - Decal - Lik-15
Long gone (approx 25+ yrs ago) 2ndpress from the CBS original masters ...the 1970 gem is considered one of the greats from the Brtish folk/psych scene ...Though they made only two albums, TREES left quite an impression...here, their second album, "On The Shore" playing minty clean, again, original masters, never sounded better...
The beautiful, charming and fragile voice of Celia Humphris is the centerpoint of this, the TREES second and last album...The traditional oriented "Soldiers Three" opens this extraordinary wonderful psychedelic folk album, and it's vocal arrangements and medieval like guitar interludes gives a strong first impression. "Murdoch" has a strong tempo driven by guitar, and an enchanting verse with overdubbed double vocals. "Polly on the shore" is one of the essential tracks here, a long psychedelic voyage with beautiful features. "Adams Toon" is a short medieval like guitar piece introducing "Sally Free & Easy", which creates a fine tension with piano driven opening, and a powerful infectious melody. "Fool" is also a great song, this being more conventional folk rock with traditional oriented melodies and lyrics. "Geordie" resembles the early FAIRPORT CONVENTION minor ballads from it's melody, which is truly beautiful, and the weeping electric guitar accompanies Celia's voice. The rest of the tracks present fine performances. So if you like psych oriented folk, one would readily recommend to check this album out! The first pressing of this record is always in the $200+/ 300$ range; quite hard to find and very expensive.
