Description
EARLY and RAREST DOO-WOP 45 of Dion and The Belmonts, " SUMMERTIME TIME ", b/w, " NOTHING IN RETURN " US SABINA. Killer tracks both sides! This is an extremely hard 45 to find especially in this condition. Only a handful have sold in the last several years. Popsike has ONLY sold 3 copies in the last 7 years. Look it over, but don't overlook it! Hand written MATRICES SAB 521 MR / SAB 522 MR.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: One reader had several concerns about this record and one of them that the record was a boot. However it appears that it may be a very limited production Canadian RCA pressing. Here is my answer to this individual:
Well, I am still of the opinion that it is not a bootleg. One comment (see link attached) suggests conclusively that it was in fact a Canadian pressing by RCA in 1964. It could have been a rush to market deal where there was not time to use the actual label graphics or the graphics simply were not available (the label did fold in 1964 and since the Belmonts moved to UA, the group may have been told to destroy all label production material). Unusual for a company such as RCA not to attach their logo or at least “Made In Canada” but because of the many errors on the label creation they figured we will issue as is. The production run would have been quite small if only 4 would turn up since 2007. Also possible litigation involving the Sabina label and United Artists would force RCA to destroy production material and cancel any further distribution into the marketplace. 45catdotcombackslashrecordbackslashsab521 Or, as you say, it could be a boot but generally boots don’t try to replicate to some degree an actual label and go to the trouble of adding song credits, code numbers and matrices in the dead wax. Whatever it is, the tracks are rare and I could find no recent recorded sales over several years other than the red Sabina copy.
