Rare Phil Spector LIMITED TO 200...NUMBERED (THIS IS #31)

An obscure compilation split into two sides. "Uncle Phil, The Other Story" presents ten singles from 1962-65 that had no involvement on Phil Spector's part, but specifically emulated his wall-of-sound production techniques. Side two has ten very obscure tracks produced at sessions to which Spector contributed. At a limited edition of 200, this is as rare as the singles from which it was compiled. It's a good concept for an esoteric anthology, though. Side one has some excellent non-hit girl-group singles that sound almost, or just as, good as Spector's hits, like the Girlfriends' "My One and Only, Jimmy Boy," Dorothy Berry's "You're So Fine," Shirley Matthews' "Big Town Boy," and Cathy Saint's "Big Bad World." Side two has little-heard tracks by Arlene Smith, Karen Lake, the Creations, the Blackwells, and the Duane Eddy-ish instrumental single by Phil Harvey (a pseudonym for Spector himself).
