Description

For sale is an extremely scarce, original 1940s or 1950s picture disc created by the United States Information Agency in Washington D.C. Picture disc features incredible, mid-century design with bongos, leaves, crazy Abstract-Expressionist, Jackson Pollock-like red and white background design, with an inexplicable steamship in the middle on one side, much of the same design in different colors on the other. It features music by Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong and the Howard University Choir. So rare that I can not find any reference to it. Possibly made as propaganda for African nations in the 1950s, a decade when US intelligence exported American culture abroad as soft power attempts to undermine/court hostile/semi-hostile foreign governments. 78 rpm. I've lived in DC for 50+ years and never seen one of these, and Google shows no references to it. Scarce. This is the second of three that I found in the estate, and the third I'm likely keeping for my collection, so don't miss out! Condition: Vinyl NM, Sleeve VG+ with some yellowing.
