WOW WHAT A FIND !!! This is a RARE ORIGINAL UNRELEASED DEMO, ONE SIDED TONY CALDER LTD / IMMEDIATE MUSIC EMIDISC DEMO ONLY ACETATE SINGLE - PSYCH / ACID FOLK / JIMMY PAGE - PRE LED ZEPPELIN - ACETATE by JOHN WILLIAMS from 1967, ORIGINAL UK UNRELEASED DEMO ACETATE PRESSING IN GREAT CONDITION !!!
In 1967 JOHN WILLIAMS (who was a friend of JIMMY PAGE) went to the studio, at the request of JIMMY PAGE, to record demos for IMMEDIATE MUSIC (JAMES PAGE MUSIC which was Jimmy Page publishing side, was a subsidiary of IMMEDIATE MUSIC) unfortunately IMMEDIATE MUSIC and IMMEDIATE RECORDS passed on the album, Jimmy Page PLAYED GUITARS and SITAR on these DEMOS !!! A few years later JOHN WILLIAMS privately released this album on his own label and this track was re-named “CITY BLUES", but here is ONE OF THE ORIGINAL TRACKS RECORDED AT THE TIME IN 1967 with the original title “IN EARLY HOURS OF MORNING" !!! TONY CALDER with ANDREW LOOG OLDHAM, was one of the 2 people behind IMMEDIATE MUSIC and IMMEDIATE RECORDS, hence the label was put on top of the original EMIDISC LABEL !!! This ACETATE came from the IMMEDIATE MUSIC library which I bought !!!
Here is what I have found on the net about this amazing find:
John Williams hailed from Bedford and had been playing in a band called The Authentics in 1964. Another member of that band (Mick O'Neil) had filled in for The Yardbirds' Keith Relf a few times, which led to The Authentics getting a recording deal with Georgio Gomelsky. Jimmy Page sat in on their session and also co-wrote one of the songs ("Without You").

Page and Williams struck up a friendship over their mutual interest in folk music. They formed a partnership of sorts -- Williams would write songs, and Page would try to get them recorded by some of the artists he sessioned with. (One success was The Mindbenders' "Little Nightingale", which was also recorded by The Pretty Things).

At some point Williams, Page, and Jim Sullivan decided to record an all-acoustic folk album. Titled The Maureeny Wishfull Album, it was released on the private Moonshine label. The liner notes give no indication as to whether "Maureeny Wishfull" is the name of the band or not. Williams wrote all the songs and sang all the vocals in addition to playing guitar. Page and Sullivan are credited for guitar, and Page is also credited with playing sitar.

Most sources list the album's release date as 1968, but the songs sound like they are from a much earlier time period. Also, one of the songs on Maureeny Wishfull is titled "Five Verses For My Love" -- yet Williams' 1967 self-titled album contains a song titled "Five More Verses For My Love". Obviously the 1967 song was written later, if not recorded later.

Williams signed with Columbia Records in 1967, releasing two 45s and an album.

The tracks are: IN EARLY HOURS OF MORNING (later re-named CITY BLUES) / side B is blank.
The ACETATE was pressed by IMMEDIATE MUSIC for TONY CALDER LTD on an EMIDISC ACETATE.
The condition of the ACETATE is in EX+ / EX++ condition (PROBABLY UNPLAYED UNTIL I PLAYED IT, Better then most ACETATES of this age, plays great with some crackle as ACETATES tend to have) !!!
