Uriah Heep : Salisbury Original 1st Pressing 1Y1 / 2Y1
This Vertigo first pressing plays with stunning audio and only a minimal amount of very light static. The gatefold has a little shelf wear and the original 'swirl' inner is in great condition with no splits.

Visual grading
This is a lovely clean vinyl and has no scratches at all. There are some faint sleeve removal hairlines and a small area of 'hazing' on Side A but this has no affect on the stunning audio. It retains a very healthy glossy sheen and judging by the spindle wear it has not been played too much. For a first pressing it is one of the cleanest examples you will find. The labels and run out grooves are also in superb condition.
Play grading
'Bird Of Prey' has a little static on the intro and then plays with stunning depth and power for the remainder. There are some mega light static sounds but there are no clicks or pops and the clarity is very impressive for a record of this age. The quiet intro on 'The Park' plays very clearly with minimal static. As the vocal begins the audio is 'high end' and then impresses with fantastic clarity. It is rare for this relatively quiet track to play as clearly as this and it really is a wonderful listen. There is no intrusive 'background' and even the quieter section towards the end has hardly any static. The clarity is superb! There is just the one click at the end of this section. The remainder is without fault aside from a little static on the fade out. 'Time To Live' is superb from the first note and plays with stunning depth and power. A superb intro! It then continues in fine style with a strong deep sound and no clicks or pops. There is barely any static and this is fantastic version of this track. 'Lady In Black' ends the side with 'high end' audio once more and as it progresses it does not disappoint! It plays with stunning clarity and there is just no intrusive interference whatsoever. This is a very impressive version for a first pressing. There is barely any static in the quiet section near the end and the remainder is faultless and has no 'background' on the fade out. Stunning!
'High Priestess' has a little static for 3/4 seconds and the intro then plays very clearly. As you progress into the track the audio is very strong and whilst there is a little static it is largely 'buried' in the music and does not intrude on the quality of the listen. It still plays with great power and there is no distortion nor any clicks or pops and is easily an Ex+ track. The classic 'Salisbury' from the outset plays with wonderfully clear audio and only minimal background static. The quality does not decrease as it progresses, a touch of mega light static but there is no crackle and certainly no clicks or pops. As the vocal begins the audio is stunning and without dissecting every section the audio remains strong and vibrant with no obvious interference. The clarity is very impressive and indeed the vast majority plays with stunning precision. An example of this is the very quiet instrumental piece near the midway point which plays with incredible clarity and barely any 'background'. The second vocal section is another great example of a vinyl very well preserved, no interference basically. The guitar solos then play perfectly and there is no distortion either. From then on the quality is Near Mint if not better! The clarity and depth is exceptional and this is one of 'cleanest' versions of this track I have ever heard. The super quiet section very near the end has no interference which is incredible for a record approaching 50 years old! Finally, the crescendo is stunning, it build perfectly and closes with no static or crackle, a perfect ending.
In summary this rare first pressing plays with superb audio overall and any fan would be extremely impressed with the quality on offer. There is only one click on the entire album and as always I have listened to every second to provide a complete grading. The clarity and sonic quality is 'high end' and any static is minimal and totally non-intrusive. The gatefold remains very clean and the Swirl inner is also in lovely condition.
The Gatefold
The original 'Vertigo' gatefold is in excellent condition with only a little shelf wear, nothing major. The edges have only a small amount of rubbing and the wide spine is in great shape with only a little rubbing on the corners. The other corners also have some rubbing but it is certainly not extensive. The opening edge has some handling wear but again not too much. The front cover is very clean and the only mark is a scuff just above the 'p' of 'Heep'. The back cover has the catalogue number and VO Price Code in one corner and has a small amount of 'spotting' only, it is very clean for the large part. The inside of the gatefold is in excellent condition with a little fading around the edges. Sounds like I'm listing a lot of negatives but overall it is a perfectly acceptable copy for a genuine first pressing and better than many!
Vertigo Inner sleeve
The original poly-lined Vertigo inner is in excellent condition with no splits or tears. There is only minor creasing and a fair amount of age related fading.
The labels
The Vertigo swirl labels are in superb condition with no marking or writing. There is only a small amount of spindle wear on the S1 label but a little more on S2.
