Extremely hard to find prog album with stunning songcraft, a classic that is hard to find at any time!!!
Salisbury is the second album released by British band Uriah Heep.
Although the majority of tracks are clean hard rock, more so than on the previous Very 'Eavy Very 'Umble, the album features forays into both jazz-fusion on "The Park", and square progressive rock on the band's first foray into large–scale composition, the 16–minute title track featuring a 24–piece orchestra. It also includes the largely acoustic ballad "Lady In Black." The hard rock sound, quite prominent here, would be transferred over to their next release, which was to be dominated by this genre. Unlike their first album, songwriting credits for fully half of the record are attributed to Ken Hensley alone, as opposed to the collaborative partnership credits of Box/Byron on the debut.
The album was originally released on the Vertigo label, as had been the band's debut Very 'eavy... Very 'umble, but both were soon re-released when the band signed to the new Bronze Records for their third LP. The connection of the artwork to the title is readily explained. Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire, England, is an Army training-area. On the front of the album sleeve is a British Chieftain tank.
Vinyl: VG to VG+. I have played this in full> There are NO jumps, NO clicks and NO sticks!!! . There are quite a few hairlines and the replay has some static noise here and there although easily overpowered on most parts by the strong and often heavy prog audio. My feeling is that the audio will improve on successive spins as there might be some dust in the grooves which I have not attempted to clean.
Sleeve: VG+. Gatefold sleeve. No stickers, NO smudges, NO tears, NO seamsplits, one small name written in the "H" of Heep at the front.Otherwise a clean sleeve with mild storage rubbing to the top and bottom edges.A couple of small mini creases to the front not immediately obvious. The inside gatefold is excellent. The spine is deadstright and fully legible.
Labels: EX. One small "S" written on the B-side label.
Inner: The correct SWIRL inner polylined sleeve has 1 tiny tear on the circle. It is the CORRECT datestamped one that belongs to this album!!! Light age yellowing.
This is a unique investment opportunity!!! Finding this album in any condition at all is nearly impossible so late in the day esp. in this formidable condition.
Important :International postage will be registered and insured if over GBP 41.00. All parcels to Italy will have to be recorded, please wait for my invoice (sorry but to many parcels have gone astray or arrived)!! Postage will be according to Royal Mail rates. 3. Supersister - Pudding of Gisteren
Though there are rarely ever any problems with my items, I always try my very best to describe everything exactly! PLEASE REMEMBER to contact me FIRST, if you have any problems at all, before you leave feedback and star ratings, so I get a chance to turn any negative experience into a positive one! I can always happily sort anything out for you, if you let me know you have a problem! This way no one has to leave Negative/Neutral feedback - and we both walk away happy! Similarly with the amount of stars, anything less than a full 5 * rating is effectively detrimental to a seller's rating as lower ratings will incur higher Final Value Fees and lower priority in the bidlists eventually making it unattractive to list items on Ebay at all. I know of at least one major previous Ebay seller who has decided not to list via Ebay again. Please do NOT bid if you cannot give me at least 1 chance to sort everything out to your FULL satisfaction in the unlikely event of a problem. Thanks again!!
A respectable album that hardly ever comes up for sale now and even in a VG+ condition will get the attention of many prog collectors and is as such an excellent investment opportunity!!!
Any questions please ask me and I will try to answer soon.
