   SAN FRANCISCO INTERNATIONAL POP FESTIVAL VOLUME I - Various Artists ( Colstar S/5001, USA 1968 )

Here we have a mega rare compilation of the San Francisco International Pop Festival, that was held over a 3 day weekend in 1968 - Every song on this album was recorded after this festival with 8 groups / solo singers, to produce a better sound (as on the backcover noticed). Musically the recordings goes from psych to bluesy tracks to more westcoast / folk oriented sounds, a few more "poppier" tracks. All bands / solo artists come from the San Francisco area except Ray Columbus, (a wellknown artist from New Zealand, who produced several garage beat recordings in his home land), who also produced this album and spent 2 excellent tracks on this compilation. All in all 12 tracks - 2 from Ray Columbus (as I´ve noticed before), 2 tracks from Charlotte Wood, 2 tracks from a band called "Fire" (not the UK band), 2 tracks from the Poppies and each one song from Sweet Smoke (NOT the European band), The New Life, 1 from the "Royal Scottish Bagpipe Co." (funny) and one track from the legendary Haight Ashbury Blues Band (this band includes some members from the Big Brother & Holding Company and New Riders Of The Purple Sage circle). A great and important artefact of the 60ies San Francisco scene - comes in beautiful designed gimmick gatefold cover and includes the fantastic poster insert (in ex+ condition) - that´s mostly missing - if you can find a copy (have seen 2-3 copies in my short lifetime.

The gimmick gatefold cover shows heavy wear on the spine, who is also taped - but mostly readable, shows some wear on corners - otherwise in top condition. But can only give a good (g) grading - due to the heavy spine wear

The record is in top clean excellent plus (ex+) condition !!!
