Description
I've been listing most of the collectible vinyl I am parting with in "records"; I sprung for two catagories because I wanted all Tull fans, as well as other collectors, to have an opportunity to bid on this piece of music history. If you are unfamiliar with what is commonly referred to as an acetate, punch the word in on google or another search engine to find out more. In short, this is the ORIGINAL cutting of the song, a reference laquer, for the producer, engineer, and artist ONLY. It is cut prior to the master disc, and is only a reference to see how well the music cuts into the disc and transfers. Also you will learn that there is actually no acetate involved, it is basically an aluminum disc coated with a fine film of laquer; it is a transition between master tape and vinyl record. You may read the article about a couple of these from Velvet Underground sold for thousands. This is a reference cut, and is identified by the second hole which is off-centered(see photos). Only when the artist, producer, and engineer are satisfied with this reference cut, does it move to the cutting of the master disc cut stage, when it is then readied for production. This piece for auction is cut prior to the master laquer. I have included enough pictures to determine authenticity for yourself. The cue marks are hand-drawn at the beginning and end of the music. This is 10 inches as most, actual music groove seven inch, and single sided as essentially all. These deteriorate quickly with use, as they are designed as merely a transfer test. I have retained this always, and it has been well cared for. Although there are sometimes several test cuts made, these are EXTREMELY rare, and more often than not, one of a kind. Especially with Ian Anderson at the helm, if there was an additional take, it would surely deviate making this cut a one of a kind anyway. This is the acetate for Jethro Tull , The Whistler; you will not find another Whistler acetate. Most likely, if you see a Tull acetate surface ever again, it will only be because I decided to part with another of the two I have left after this one is gone. These few I acquired decades ago are legitimate and as rare as hens teeth. This is your opportunity to own a true piece of rare and unique musical history; if you are a Jethro Tull fan, don't get caught sleeping.
