Dr. John's Spin Factory is super pleased to offer a tremendous sounding version of Underworld's 1998 classic, dubnobasswithmyheadman. This is the album that made stars of UK musicians Rick Smith (keyboards, synthesizers, and production) and Karl Hyde (singer, guitarist, and lyricist). I bought the copy up for sale mail order in 2003. It was remastered and reissued by the UK company, Simply Vinyl, with the disc pressed in the Netherlands. This album was among Simply Vinyl's Half-Speed Mastered series and is advertised as weighing in at 160 grams. However, my trusty and sensitive postal scale puts the weight of both of these discs at 180 grams. (Because this sort of thing piques my curiosity, I dug into it. Turns out that, at least for Simply Vinyl, such a variance in targeted Vs. actual produced disc weight was within production tolerances. So, you get an extra 20 grams per disc at no extra charge!) The serious point: This is the one and only 2003 Simply Vinyl version and regardless of what the weight of the discs is Vs. what they "should be," these LPs sound absolutely killer! The vinyl looks and sounds like new (if not better thanks to ultrasonic cleaning), with virtually no surface noise, not even between tracks. (Across all four sides, I don't think there is a single 'tick.') What your speakers produce will be some of the tightest, warmest, room filling, and felt-in-the-chest thumping bass you've likely ever experienced (at least on a home stereo). It's quite the treat for those of us in love with low end response! And, for those of you wanting nothing but the facts regarding the providence of this vinyl, here is what you will find in the dead wax:

In terms of the music (there are nine tracks) you will find pressed into these two fine slaps of vinyl, well, here is the most complete list of the genre I discovered on my search to educate myself and advise potential buyers what to expect from this genre bending, style blending, aural treat:

- Ambient & Electronica: It layers atmospheric synth pads, expansive soundscapes, and textured loops to build a deep, immersive mood.
- Dub: Traces of dub influence appear through heavy, cavernous basslines and spaced-out audio effects.
- Art-Rock/Leftfield: The record mixes traditional electronic dance production with experimental song structures and spoken-word, stream-of-consciousness vocals
- Got all that? Actually, for this listener and music lover, all of the above is just words. Musically, artistically, this album is super-sized fun and delivers its musical goods as few others. If your system (turntable, preamp, amp, and speakers) is up to the task, you will find this album generates addictively tremendous sounds.
