From news article in 2012……

This interesting man has quite a diverse accumulation of life experiences from which to draw as he teaches and leads this congregation. After high school he started in the medical field as an orderly, then a surgical technician and eventually a cardiac profusionist. This position gave him the responsibility of operating the heart and lung machine for patients receiving heart transplants. During this time he received his schooling and technical training at Indiana University .

Wachtstetter then heard God call him to the ministry. He attended The Florida Theological Seminary where he got his master's degree in divinity. "God still has me working on hearts, and maybe still putting people to sleep," he said with a grin.

Another experience that this pastor brings to Crossveiw is a year of professional football. He played for the Tampa Bay Bandits in the short-lived United States Football League. He was a safety until he suffered a knee injury that sidelined him. He was the chaplain for the Bandits after his misfortune and worked with Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

For a few years he was a traveling evangelist. Then he served in Indiana for six years as a senior associate pastor under Steve Munsey

Wachtstetter sat on President Ronald Reagan's Faith and Family Commission during that administration. It was a privilege to serve on that 12-15 person advisory group with Dr. James Dobson of Focus on the Family and the late Jerry Falwell among others.
